US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has issued an immigration detainer against a Mexican national who was arrested in Indiana on allegations of attempted rape and sexual misconduct with a minor.
On July 6, Javier Cereque-Perez was arrested in Indianapolis as part of a combined investigation between ICE and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Following the arrest, federal authorities transferred Cereque-Perez to the Fishers Police Department.
The arrest originates from an alleged incident in August 2024 near Fishers, Indiana. According to local reports, an arrest warrant was obtained in December 2024 when an underage victim told police that Cereque-Perez handled her inappropriately, attempted to remove her clothing, and attempted to rape her inside a car.
Cereque-Perez faces four criminal charges: attempted rape, sexual misbehavior with a minor, and sexual battery.
Cereque-Perez allegedly entered the United States illegally on an unknown date and location. He is currently being held at the Hamilton County Jail, where ICE agents have issued a detainer requiring local police to notify federal law enforcement before his release.
“This illegal alien faces charges of attempted rape, sexual misconduct with a child, and sexual battery after allegedly attempting to rape a child in 2024,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis in a statement. “Thanks to our federal and local law enforcement partners, he will now face justice for his crimes.” ICE has issued a detainer requesting that officials in Indiana turn him up to ICE custody so that he can be removed from our nation and never prey on another innocent child again.”
