An Upper Marlboro man is facing criminal charges after Calvert County Sheriff’s Office detectives believe he was involved in the theft of a luxury automobile worth around $90,000. Court documents show that investigators used car plate reader data, surveillance footage, and cellphone information to identify him as a suspect.
Gregory John Price, 34, of Upper Marlboro, was charged in Calvert County District Court with felony unauthorized taking of a motor vehicle and criminal theft of items valued at $25,000 to $100,000. The allegations come from the June 18, 2026 theft of a white 2024 Lexus GX550 from Horizons on the Bay in Chesapeake Beach.
According to the probable cause statement, deputies responded to a report of a stolen car at Horizons on the Bay, 8501 Bayside Road, at 11 a.m. on June 18. The owner stated that her white 2024 Lexus GX550 was stolen overnight from the resort parking area. Investigators estimated the SUV’s value at around $90,000.
During the inquiry, detectives checked Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) data and discovered the stolen Lexus driving westbound on Route 260 just after 3 a.m. on June 18. Investigators also saw a black Ford F-450 pickup truck with Virginia registration driving directly behind the stolen Lexus. According to criminal documents, the two automobiles were seen traveling together through Calvert County before entering Prince George’s County.
Deputies also examined security footage from Horizons on the Bay, which allegedly captured the suspect car arriving at the property just after 1 a.m. According to detectives, the pickup vehicle then left the area, followed by the stolen Lexus about a minute later. Additional ALPR data purportedly revealed that both vehicles left Calvert County jointly via Route 261 before continuing north.
Investigators traced the pickup truck’s registration back to Price and later that day conducted surveillance at his Upper Marlboro home, where the truck was parked outside. Detectives also looked through law enforcement databases before calling the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Washington Area Vehicle Enforcement Unit. Detectives from that squad stated that they had previous contacts with Price in recent months.
As part of the investigation, officers obtained court-authorized search warrants for historical location records related with a cellphone thought to be Price’s. According to court documents, the records were analyzed using mapping software and reportedly revealed that the phone traveled from Upper Marlboro to Chesapeake Beach on the night of June 17 before interacting with cellular towers near Horizons on the Bay in the early morning hours of June 18. Detectives claimed the phone’s travels closely followed the sequence established by CCTV footage and ALPR data before returning to Prince George’s County later that morning.
On July 15, officers and the Prince George’s County Police Department Emergency Services Team executed a search warrant at Price’s Upper Marlboro home. During the search, authorities discovered a black Ford F-450 parked outside and seized numerous smartphones, one of which they recognized as Price’s business phone.
According to court documents, investigators conducted a taped interview with Price after informing him of his Miranda rights. During the interview, investigators claimed Price admitted driving the Ford F-450 to Horizons on the Bay in the early morning of June 18 and dropping off another person to take the Lexus. According to charging documents, Price admitted to following the stolen SUV after the incident.
According to court records, Price was initially jailed without bond following his arrest on July 15. On July 16, 2026, Judge Michelle R. Saunders set bail at a $10,000 percentage bond, which court records show was posted with a $1,000 cash deposit, allowing Price to be released pending trial. He is set to appear in Calvert County District Court on September 23, 2026, for a trial-officer scheduling hearing.
