A 21-year-old man was detained after reportedly pushing his way into a restroom while his girlfriend was naked.
Desmond Alton McNeil of Wildwood was arrested on Tuesday afternoon on felony charges of false imprisonment and criminal violence.
According to the Wildwood Police Department’s arrest record, police responded to a reported disturbance at a residence on Motorcoach Way in the Solamar villa and townhome development. The victim told police that she and McNeil, whom she had been dating for about a year and a half, had a verbal altercation. In order to de-escalate the situation, she locked herself in the bathroom and took a shower. However, McNeil persistently hammered on the door, eventually forcing it open while she was naked, claiming he wanted to continue the debate and “get his point across.”
The woman tried to escape by the front door, but McNeil blocked her route, pulled her backward, and repeatedly banged her with his chest to keep her inside. When she attempted to flee through the back door, he stopped her again.
She then attempted to flee in her vehicle, but when McNeil tried to accompany her, she became fearful and opted to walk to the apartment complex’s leasing office for assistance. McNeil got in her car and cautiously followed her.
According to two independent witnesses, McNeil quickly stopped the vehicle, exited, and addressed the woman face-to-face. Witnesses described witnessing McNeil aggressively rub his forehead into hers and take the car keys from her hand.
When one of the witnesses rolled down his window to ask if the woman needed assistance, McNeil allegedly grew angry, warning the bystander, “Mind your business or it can get bad for you.” The victim attempted to flee by jumping into the witness’s car, but the witness had a baby in the back seat and had to order her to exit for the child’s safety.
When confronted by authorities, McNeil claimed the encounter was entirely verbal and denied any physical altercation occurred, despite the corroborating accounts of the independent witnesses.
He was brought into custody and held without bond at the Sumter County Detention Center.
