Two men have been charged after Michigan State Police said they disguised as construction workers and took about $65,000 in cash and jewelry from a Lambertville home.
According to police, the males entered the home on July 29 with authorization from the occupants. A home security system saw them departing a few minutes later with various goods in their pockets, according to a Michigan State Police press release.
The homeowners eventually realized that cash, jewelry, and multiple blank checks had gone missing. Police claimed the homeowners recognized one of the men from a construction business that had previously worked on the property.
The Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office issued warrants for larceny exceeding $20,000 and larceny in a building.
The Michigan State authorities’ Fugitive Team located both men on July 30 at a residence in Ecorse, according to authorities. Troopers from the Monroe and Metro South posts searched the home and found the victims’ jewelry and checks, as well as more than $3,000 in cash.
Justin Andrew Ortiz, 34, and Matthew Lawrence Wisner, 31, both from Ecorse, were arraigned on July 31 in Monroe County’s First District Court. Each is charged with larceny over $20,000 and larceny in a structure. The bond was set at $75,000 for each individual.
