A 24-year-old Arkansas man has been apprehended after police say he purposely hit his 18-year-old girlfriend with a pickup truck after an altercation in north Harris County, leaving her in critical condition.
Jorge Luis Perez was arrested by detectives from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Violent Offenders Unit in connection with the aggravated assault that took place in the 400 block of FM 1960 near Cypress Station.
According to authorities, Perez and the victim, both Arkansas residents, were driving together in a pickup truck when they got into an argument.
During the argument, the 18-year-old woman got out of the car.
According to detectives, Perez originally drove away before turning the truck around and purposefully hitting the woman as she walked away.
The victim sustained severe injuries and was discovered unconscious at the site. She was taken to a local hospital and remains in critical condition.
Investigators identified the suspect vehicle as a red Dodge Ram pickup truck after studying security footage and consulting law enforcement databases.
The truck was eventually found at a nearby apartment complex, where detectives saw Perez get behind the wheel and drive away. Patrol deputies made a traffic stop and apprehended him without incident.
Perez was brought into Harris County Jail and charged with aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury.
