A man was detained on drug trafficking charges when a bag containing fentanyl and cocaine dropped from his person at a nearby Circle K.
Craig Howard Cebert, 56, borrowed a car from his mother, who lives in Spruce Creek South, Summerfield’s 55+ neighborhood. Thursday nite, he drove her car to Circle K in Ocala. A store clerk called 911 after noticing a transparent sandwich bag with a white powdery substance on the floor near the soft drink section. According to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the clerk noticed the bag shortly after Cebert walked away from the soda machine.
The deputy examined the store’s video camera, which showed Cebert — dressed conspicuously in a blue cowboy hat, a Houston Astros button-up shirt, blue-and-white pajama pants, and white sneakers — backing away from the machine. According to the arrest report, when he stepped away, the bag slipped off his person and into the floor.
The stuff in the bag measured 24 grams and tested positive for cocaine and fentanyl.
Deputies discovered Cebert outside in the parking lot, sitting in the driver’s seat of his vehicle with a tiny puppy. He informed police he drove from Levy County and borrowed the car from his mother. During a post-Miranda interrogation, he denied ownership of the narcotics that had fallen to the floor.
After arresting Cebert, deputies searched the rented vehicle. They found a clear glass pipe in the center console and a pink glass pipe in the armrest, both of which tested positive for methamphetamine. Deputies discovered 1.5 grams of methamphetamine on a folded piece of aluminum foil in the spare tire well of the rear hatch.
The automobile was towed from the scene.
Cebert is charged with felony trafficking in fentanyl, possession of cocaine, and possession of methamphetamine, as well as misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked into the Marion County Jail and was initially held without bond.
