Two custodians are dead in a shooting at an elementary school in Chicago on Monday afternoon, according to authorities.

The shooting took place around 3:40 p.m. at Mark Twain Elementary School in the 5100 block of South Lotus Avenue.
According to Chicago police, two adults were found lifeless inside the school.
A 48-year-old woman who had been shot once in the head was transported to Christ Hospital in critical condition. A 63-year-old male who had been shot once in the head was transferred to the same hospital in critical condition, according to police.
Officers found a weapon at the site.
SEIU Local 73 released this statement after the incident:
“The only facts we know right now are that two families have lost a loved one, and our thoughts and prayers are with their families, as well as the staff, students, and families of Mark Twain Elementary School,” said Trumaine Reeves, executive vise president of SEIU Local 73.
One neighbor stated she lives across the street and knows the custodial staff.I feel sorry for them, and we know a few of them. Ana Medina stated, “And we know the supervisor.”
Felicia Purga’s daughter, a student at Mark Twain, expressed nervousness about the new school year.This form of gun violence has just occurred. Yes. Now, how will I feel safe if she eats in the cafeteria where this all happened? That’s quite horrible, and this is a crime scene. I can’t eat while thinking. I can’t even eat while watching a terrifying movie. Purga replied, “I can only imagine what’s going on inside there.”
Authorities have not said what caused the shooting, and their identities have not been released.
The school was not in session when the shooting occurred. Students are slated to return on August 24.
