It’s been more than five years since a man reported missing in southeast Columbus was discovered dead inside his vehicle, but police have yet to solve what they believe is a homicide.
Tymar Whitsett Jr. was reported missing on March 15, 2021, from the Innis Garden Village community. Officers arrived at his residence in the 1300 block of Marion Drive North, and evidence discovered at the site suggested foul play. Whitsett, on the other hand, remained undiscovered.
Nearly a month later, on April 13, a vehicle driven by Whitsett was found approximately a mile away, behind a property in the 1600 block of Smith Road. His remains were discovered inside the truck, and he was positively recognized as the victim.
Police suspect Whitsett was killed inside the Marion Drive apartment before being driven to the Smith Road address. Police believe there were multiple witnesses at the suspected crime site, but none have come forward with information.
At the time of his disappearance, police said Whitsett was classified as an endangered missing person owing to “suspicious circumstances” and that they were “very concerned for his safety.”
Columbus police are requesting anybody with information on potential suspects or leads in the case to call Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS (8477) or go to www.stopcrime.org and e-mail their report.
