A man wanted in connection with the 2015 Lawrence killing was apprehended in Pennsylvania on Monday after being on the run for more than a decade.

According to the US Marshals Service, Yssael Lantigua Alecon, 45, was apprehended approximately 11:40 a.m. Monday in Hazleton City, Pennsylvania. He was wanted for murder by the Lawrence Police Department and was one of the Massachusetts State Police’s Most Wanted Fugitives.

According to public records, officers responded to a gunshot at Bali’s Restaurant in Lawrence on May 1, 2015. A man was discovered dead in a washroom after being shot several times.

Lantigua Alecon was later arrested on allegations of murder and unlicensed firearm possession. Initial efforts to locate him were unsuccessful, forcing the United States Marshals Service to join with the inquiry.

The arrest came after a joint fugitive investigation by the US Marshals Service and law enforcement authorities in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.

“This arrest of one of the Massachusetts State Police’s Most Wanted Fugitives is a significant victory for public safety and a testament to law enforcement’s tenacity,” said Dennis Matulewicz, director of the U.S. Marshals Service for the District of Massachusetts. “The Massachusetts State Police is one of our most reliable allies, and we are delighted to have worked with them and our Pennsylvania partners to catch this deadly fugitive. Lantigua Alecon had been a fugitive wanted for murder for more than a decade, but his arrest today sends a clear message that no matter how far you run or how long you hide, the United States Marshals Service and our law enforcement partners will never stop pursuing those accused of violent crimes and bringing them to justice.

Lantigua Alecon will be jailed in Pennsylvania awaiting extradition to Massachusetts.

The United States Marshals Service thanked the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, Lawrence police, Pennsylvania State Police, Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, and Hazleton City Police Department for their assistance in the investigation.

Authorities reminded the public that criminal charges and allegations are accusations, and suspects are assumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
