A teen driver was apprehended after reaching over 100 mph on Interstate 75 in Sumter County.
At 8:20 p.m. Saturday, a deputy saw 18-year-old Rogel Perez Urra of Ocala driving a white 2021 Chevy Traverse at a far higher speed than authorized on Interstate 75 in Webster, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
The deputy pursued the car in Bushnell after witnessing repeated lane changes and aggressive movements. He clocked the car at 97 mph before it accelerated to 104. According to the report, it traveled at speeds above 100 mph for three-quarters of a mile before being stopped by police authorities.
Perez Urra was eventually arrested on charges of reckless driving at speeds of 100 mph or more. He was booked into Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting a $500 bond.
