Two men were sentenced to federal prison after being found guilty of committing an armed robbery at a CVS Pharmacy in Carmel.
Mikhal Hamilton, 26, was recently sentenced to 13 years in jail with three years of supervised release. A jury convicted the Indianapolis man of interfering with business by robbery, brandishing a firearm during a violent crime, and unlawful firearm possession.
David Washington, 24, of Arcadia, was previously sentenced to nine years in federal prison and five years on supervised release. This comes after he pled guilty to interfering with business through robbery and brandishing a pistol during a violent crime.
Court filings describe how the two guys robbed the CVS on the morning of June 25, 2023, at 1424 Rangeline Road in Carmel. During the robbery, Hamilton allegedly hopped over the counter and pointed a handgun at an employee, demanding that they unlock the safe.
The safe allegedly contained a variety of banned narcotics including prescription medicines. Washington packed bags with medication bottles before both guys fled north in a blue Chevrolet Impala and stopped at a nearby eatery.
Carmel Police stated they “quickly located” the suspect vehicle and spotted Hamilton throwing pill bottles out the back window as they pursued them. Investigators later discovered medications, pill bottles, and two firearms in the car.
U.S. District Attorney Tom Wheeler stated that Hamilton and Washington’s sentences send a “clear message” to offenders that their conduct would not be allowed in central Indiana.”Armed robbery is a violent and dangerous crime,” Wheeler explained. “It permanently alters the lives of the victims who endure the terror, anguish, and violence that comes with being robbed while working. While the victim may be physically OK, the defendants’ aggressive conduct have taken away her peace of mind and capacity to feel safe at work.”
