A Massachusetts man faces decades in prison after being convicted of serious crimes against children.
According to the District Attorney, 53-year-old Angel Ramos of Ware was sentenced to 20 to 25 years in state prison, followed by 10 years of supervised probation, by Hampshire Superior Court Judge Charles Groce III.
Ramos was convicted of 28 charges of rape and sexual abuse of a minor after a four-day bench trial. As a result of these convictions, Ramos must register as a sex offender.
Ramos was convicted of the following crimes: aggravated rape of a child (13 counts), forcible rape of a child (3 counts), indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 (6 counts), aggravated intimidation of a witness (2 counts), posing or exhibiting a child in a state of nudity, trafficking of a person under 18 for sexual servitude, open and gross lewdness, and assault with intent to rape.
An investigation determined that the offenses occurred over a period of several years, from 2018 to 2024, and included one juvenile kid aged 7 to 13.
Assistant District Attorneys Stephanie Jimenez and Jillian Parent prosecuted the case for the Commonwealth, while Family Service Advocate Julia Wallace assisted the survivor. The Commonwealth recommended a 30- to 35-year state prison term. Attorney Bob Opsitnick of Chicopee, representing the defendant, asked leniency and that the Court impose the minimum jail time on each crime.
As part of his probation, he must complete a sex offender evaluation and any recommended treatment; have no unsupervised contact with children under the age of 18; do not reside with or visit minors overnight; have no contact with the victim; comply with all Sex Offender Registry Board requirements; and wear a GPS monitoring device.
“We commend the survivor for her courage and perseverance throughout this process,” said ADA Jimenez. “While no sentence can undo the harm caused, we hope this outcome provides her and her family with some measure of closure. We will continue to stand with survivors and vigorously pursue accountability for those who exploit and victimize children.”
