A Wisconsin man will be behind bars for life after he shot and killed his roommate in St. Paul last year.
Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena said on Tuesday that 37-year-old Jacob Audie was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of release for the death of Michael Schille, age 72.
On August 19, Audie was convicted of one count of premeditated first-degree murder and one count of intentional second-degree murder.
Audie contacted 911 in April 2025, reporting that he had shot Schille inside their South St. Paul apartment. According to court documents, officers discovered Schille on a couch with a gunshot wound to the side of his face.
An AR-style rifle, several rifle magazines, and an empty casing were discovered throughout the residence. Audie lived with Schille for at least one to two years, according to court filings, and helped care for him and clean the flat throughout that time.
Audie is still in detention at the Dakota County Jail, awaiting transfer to the Department of Corrections.
