A San Diego man who sent a threatening letter to a conservative political commentator after Charlie Kirk’s killing was sentenced to 11 months in federal prison on Thursday by a Florida judge.
George Isbell, 70, admits to sending the letter to right-wing media star Benny Johnson last October, just over a week after Kirk, Johnson’s friend, was shot and killed at Utah Valley University.
The letter stated, “The world has so much hate and pain thanks to people like you and Charlie Kirk,” and “Here’s hoping the American flag strangles you to death.” My uncle drowned in the Rhine River to resist fascists like you, and I will not let him die in vain.”
It ended with, “Maybe someone will blow your head off!!!” We can hope! Do you have any public engagements planned? I love seeing your head burst and your blood color the concrete red. “What a sight!”
Prosecutors stated in their sentencing papers that other unsent “threatening and harassing” letters were later discovered in Isbell’s residence, addressed to Kirk’s widow and some United States Congressmembers, among others.
Isbell pled guilty earlier this year in federal court in the Middle District of Florida to one count of mailing a threatening communication and one count of making an interstate threat to harm. He was sentenced on Wednesday by a federal judge in Florida.
