An Indianapolis man sentenced to 40 years in prison after being charged with child molestation, a Level 1 crime.
Christopher Carey, 43, was charged on Monday with multiple charges of child molestation, a level 1 felony. He is also accused of child molestation, a Level 4 felony.
In Indiana, Level 1 offenses can result in up to 40 years in jail.
According to court filings, a victim under the age of 16 came forward on Sunday to accuse Carey of rape. The victim stated that the rape occurred earlier that night and that Carey had sexually attacked her previously in recent months.
The assaults allegedly took place in a variety of settings, including the sleeper of Carey’s semi-truck.
When interviewed by authorities, Carey denied abusing or sexually touching the victim. He also stated that the victim had previously made similar charges against him.
Police also spoke with Carey’s previous girlfriend, who told them she had never seen him act inappropriately around youngsters.
Court filings show that officers gathered DNA evidence from both Carey and the victim and sent it to a lab for examination.
Carey was hauled into custody on Monday. He is now detained in the Marion County Jail without bond.
