A 65-year-old man had been apprehended on three counts of fraudulent business practices after allegedly accepting an initial payment and failing to complete agreed-upon work, according to a news release from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
Humberto Camarillo was arrested on three warrants for deceptive business practices and put into the El Paso County Detention Facility on $10,000 bond. He was released on Monday, September 1, after posting bond, according to jail records.
The investigation began after a victim claimed to have hired Camarillo to repair a residence.
After receiving a first payment, Camarillo allegedly asked the victim for more money. He then allegedly ceased returning calls and messages, and the agreed-upon job was not performed, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators acquired evidence and issued an arrest warrant against Camarillo for misleading business practices. While attempting to locate him, deputies discovered that he was also wanted on two other warrants for the same offense, according to EPCSO.
On Monday, September 1, deputies apprehended Camarillo. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office advises citizens to exercise caution when engaging individuals or organizations for home repairs or remodeling. Residents should investigate contractors, verify their credentials and business information, obtain a formal agreement outlining the work and payment terms, and proceed with care if asked to provide additional cash before the agreed-upon work is completed,” EPCSO stated.
