2 killed in Gulfport AT&T store shooting

Two people were killed in a shooting at an AT&T store in Gulfport, authorities said.

On September 7, 2026, a shooting occurred at the AT&T store in the Crossroads mall.

The Sun Herald reports that Mary Anne Oberlies, 78, of Gulfport, and Shane Basquill, 31, of Kiln, were both killed in the shooting. Basquill was a store employee, while Oberlies was a customer.

Gulfport police identified the suspect as Samuel Jerome Andrews, 71, of Harrison County. They claimed Andrews attempted to flee the area in a car, but a traffic stop was made. Andrews was detained without incident, and police say a handgun was found.

Andrews was taken to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center and charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of firing in a crowd. He was denied bond for the murder counts, but was granted a $500,000 bond for shooting into a crowd.
