A Hazel Crest woman is facing many charges, including DUI, after a crash on the Dan Ryan that killed an infant and injured four toddlers on Sunday evening.
Just after 5:45 p.m., Illinois State Police troopers responded to the northbound lanes of the Dan Ryan near 147th Street in Harvey. Latasha Hope, 33, of Hazel Crest, is accused of driving intoxicated when her red Ford SUV went off the road and collided with a light pole.
Hope, an infant, and four toddlers were sent to a local hospital with varying degrees of injuries. The ISP did not reveal the conditions, but the infant was eventually declared dead.
Police allege that none of the youngsters were secured in a child safety seat.
Hope was charged on Tuesday with reckless homicide, DUI leading to death, and child endangerment resulting in death.
Police did not disclose Hope’s relationship with the youngsters. No additional information is available at this time.
