Human Remains found Outside Tent In Citrus County Woods

Detectives with the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office are investigating after human remains were found Friday night in a wooded area in Homosassa.

According to the sheriff’s office, officers of the Major Crimes Unit arrived at the location off West Bradshaw Street around 8:00 p.m. on September 11. When detectives arrived, they discovered highly decayed yet mainly intact skeleton remains laying just outside a tent.

A preliminary inspection by both investigators and the Medical Examiner’s Office revealed no immediate or obvious evidence of foul play.

The Medical Examiner’s Office seized custody of the remains to determine how the person died and to help authenticate their identity. Authorities stated that the cause of death is uncertain, and a positive identification is pending official DNA tests.
