A Madison man was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison for an armed robbery of a Baraboo store, the Sauk County District Attorney announced Monday.
In February 2025, Dashun Williams, 31, came into the Cash Store on South Boulevard in Baraboo and waited until he was alone with two employees.
Williams then pulled out a gun and demanded money from the manager, threatening to kill her, according to the district attorney.
Williams forced the employees into the back of the store, where one employee emptied the safe and teller drawers while the other lay face down on the floor.
Williams then forced the staff into the bathroom, threatening to murder them if they came out before he left. Williams removed $4,600 from the store.
The license plate of the getaway automobile was covered, according to officials, but a Sauk County Sheriff’s Office dispatcher identified the vehicle’s rims as the same vehicle that had driven toward Baraboo earlier that morning.
The vehicle was linked back to a GPS-monitored individual who was present at the store at the time of the theft.
“A Sauk County dispatcher recognized a distinctive set of wheel rims and matched them to an SUV that had been photographed heading toward Baraboo, and our officers ran down every lead he developed,” stated Michael Albrecht, District Attorney. “There is a legitimate debate about ALPR cameras, and this instance is one specific example that fits in it. A violent man concealed his plate, robbed two women at gunpoint, and went away unscathed. He was only identified after a dispatcher recognized his vehicle from a video that had captured it on the way to town. This demonstrates local police and prosecutors doing precisely what the public expects of them: employing a tool as intended to protect the community from violent crime. It does not end the discussion. It provides a real-world example.
Williams was under state supervision when he committed the Cash Store heist. Williams was found guilty of armed robbery in Dane County in 2012.
Williams will serve ten years in prison, followed by ten years of extended supervision for the Cash Store heist.
