According to a release from the State Troopers at Painted Post, a man has been apprehended following a hit-and-run in Corning.
At 9:55 p.m. on Monday, June 29, officials responded to a hit-and-run collision on East Corning Road involving a cyclist. According to the announcement, when officials arrived, they discovered that a woman was cycling east when she was hit from behind by a vehicle that did not stop and continued driving.
The cyclist was transferred to Robert Packer Hospital in Pennsylvania for treatment and eventually released.
Officials said they discovered and retrieved a maroon passenger-side mirror and fog light assembly cover near the accident site in an attempt to connect it to the car involved.
According to the announcement, troopers were alerted to a maroon vehicle with front-end damage, including a missing passenger-side mirror. The report came from a nearby residence, where the driver asked for assistance changing a tire. The driver informed the residents that the vehicle had been damaged by hitting a deer.
According to the report, investigators have identified 34-year-old Casimiro R. Johnson of Corning as a suspect. Officials were able to locate Johnson’s home, which featured a maroon damaged automobile with a spare tire.
According to the announcement, Johnson faces the following charges:
- Assault in the second degree, a class D felony
- Leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious physical injury, a class E felony
- Tampering with physical evidence, a class E felony
Johnson was processed at the State Police Painted Post before being sent to the Steuben County Jail.
