Over a dozen people were recently apprehended following enforcement on a portion of I-70.
Indiana State Police announced that its Pendleton District conducted a traffic enforcement detail called “Operation Space Cadet” throughout Henry and Wayne counties in Indiana. The work focused on unsafe following distances between semi-trucks in construction zones.
During the enforcement operation, troopers made 228 traffic stops, 159 citations, 132 warnings, 53 commercial motor vehicle infractions, and 16 arrests.
Enforcement in the construction zone reduced crash rates significantly. Prior to the enforcement campaign, the area experienced approximately eight crashes per week, three of which resulted in injuries, necessitating substantial closures within the zone,” stated ISP. “During the operation, crashes dropped to three total, with zero personal-injury crashes.”
Drivers are advised to always slow down, allow for extra time on the road, and maintain a safe following distance.
