A stolen vehicle fleeing Virginia State Police crashed on an Interstate 395 exit ramp early Monday, killing three individuals and critically injuring a fourth.
Virginia State Police reported that a trooper observed the stolen vehicle at approximately 12:45 a.m. on Stevenson Road near South Walker Street in Alexandria and initiated a traffic stop.
The driver declined to stop and accelerated onto northbound I‑395. Investigators determined that the vehicle entered the Shirlington Road exit ramp at high speed, lost control, veered off the ramp’s right side, and collided with a jersey barrier.
One passenger died at the crash site. The remaining three occupants were transported to hospitals; subsequently, the driver and a second passenger succumbed to their injuries, while the fourth occupant remains in critical condition.
State police confirmed that none of the occupants were wearing seat belts.
Police indicated that all four occupants were juveniles, and their identities have not been disclosed.
Authorities noted that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Prince George’s County, Maryland.
Investigators continue to examine the crash.
