A Central Florida mother was taken into custody for allowing her child to drive, resulting in a crash at a petrol station.
Local cops came to a 7-Eleven on Gordon Road in Riverview, near Tampa, after a child smashed into a concrete traffic barrier. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested the woman after she let her 11-year-old child drive a car.
Deputies discovered that Carribean Myers, 41, allowed her 11-year-old autistic child to drive the vehicle from their home to the gas station while she supervised and sat in the passenger seat. When attempting to stop, the child mistook the gas pedal for the brake and crashed into the barrier.
Local law enforcement said that no one was wounded. The vehicle and building were both damaged.
During the investigation, deputies determined that Myers has not had a valid driver’s license since July 13, 2026, and that she previously permitted her underage children to drive without one.
“Putting an 11-year-old behind the wheel is reckless and could have ended in tragedy,” Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “This mother made a reckless decision, endangering her child and everyone around them. Parents have a responsibility to protect their children and not put them in circumstances that could cause them or someone else great harm. “We will hold anyone accountable who endangers a child.”
According to HCSO, Myers was arrested on accusations of child abuse and allowing an unauthorized minor to drive.
