Two people were detained Monday nite after a brawl broke out on a sailboat anchored off Cape Sable in Everglades National Park, according to authorities.
Josh Huckabee Caldwell, 51, of Washington, North Carolina, and Norreal Patrice Lee, 42, of Orlando, Florida, were both charged with violence after the incident on September 28.
According to law officials, the incident began onboard a 30- to 35-foot sailboat in the waters of mainland Monroe County. Lee had engaged Caldwell to help navigate the vessel through the Florida Keys. During the voyage, the two got into an argument.
According to investigators, the conflict simmered and intensified for several hours before turning physical. Caldwell and Lee informed deputies that the other person hit, scratched, bit, and slapped them during the altercation.
Around 8:13 p.m., the US Coast Guard phoned the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office to request assistance with the water altercation.
Deputies noticed that both men had minor injuries consistent with the struggle they recounted, but neither sustained major harm. Following the intervention of maritime officials and local deputies, Lee and Caldwell were detained and sent to jail.
