Hostage taker who threw Molotovs from Freeport high rise sentenced to 15 years in prison

A man who locked himself in a Freeport apartment building for 12 hours, fired a rifle, and threw Molotov cocktails out the 10th floor window has been sentenced to over 15 years in prison.

Grady Clark, 54, kept a woman against her will at an apartment at the Hosmer Apartments at 601 N. Walnut Avenue in September 2024.

The victim was able to flee before Clark barricaded himself in the flat, resulting in a stand-off with police that began at 10:38 a.m. and lasted until 10:30 p.m. Clark said police, he was suicidal and keeping hostages, and he threatened to shoot policemen if they approached.

Around 1:50 p.m., police claimed Clark shot two rounds out the window with a rifle before throwing Molotov cocktails out the apartment window.

Clark surrendered to authorities at roughly 10:30 p.m. Authorities reported an AK-47 assault pistol, an SKS assault rifle, high-capacity magazines, a hoard of ammo, and MDMA (Ecstasy) were discovered in his residence.

Clark pled guilty to illegal possession of a handgun by a felon earlier this year. He was condemned to 15 years in federal prison last Friday.
