A Genesee County woman won $500,000 from the Michigan Lottery while playing her first scratch-off.
The lucky winner, who opted to remain anonymous, received the Detroit Tigers Instant Ticket as a present but was unsure how to use it because she had never played the lottery before. She eventually allowed a family member to scratch it.
“I was cleaning up after dinner when he asked if it was some sort of prank ticket because it showed a $500,000 win,” stated the winner. “I believed he was joking, so I continued cleaning the kitchen. He stepped up to me and handed me the ticket with trembling hands. When I saw the $500,000 win, I couldn’t believe it until I took it to the store and had the clerk scan it.
The winning ticket was sold at the Mobil Gas Station on Saginaw Road and Perry Road in Grand Blanc.
With her gains, she intends to pay off her car and save the rest.
According to the Michigan Lottery, more than $4 million in prizes remain available for the Detroit Tigers Instant Game.
