A Newark man has been detained in connection with an August home invasion in which defendants reportedly impersonated FBI agents and took $7,500 from a woman’s apartment, police said.
Samuel Prata, 42, is charged with burglary, theft, criminal restraint, impersonating a public worker, and conspiracy, according to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda.
As originally reported by News 12, three men allegedly approached the victim’s third-floor apartment on Mott Street near Raymond Boulevard on August 27, claiming to be federal agents and demanding that she open the door.
When the woman opened the door, the males rushed in and shoved her into a couch, according to authorities. One person held her down as two masked assailants ransacked the residence, seizing $7,500 from a bedroom safe and two credit cards from her purse.
A fourth suspect sat outside in a black Toyota Camry Solara. The group departed in a vehicle with out-of-state license plates, heading east on Fleming Avenue.
Police are still looking for the three remaining suspects and encourage anyone with information to contact the department’s anonymous Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-695-8477.
