A 37‑year‑old Floridian now faces several felony charges after officials uncovered multiple cats buried alive on her Hobe Sound property.
Deputies from the Martin County Sheriff’s Uniform Patrol and investigators from MCSO Animal Services responded to an active animal‑cruelty complaint at the Hobe Sound Mobile Home Park, situated in the 11,000 block of SE Federal Highway.
Investigators said the homeowner, Alba Chavez, informed deputies that she buried at least four of her cats in the yard, convinced they were demons.
Deputies started excavating the yard to rescue the animals. Crews succeeded in pulling two cats alive, while the other two were discovered deceased underground.
Chavez was arrested on‑site, and authorities said she will face several counts of aggravated animal cruelty.
Deputies stayed at the mobile home park to keep searching the grounds, and the sheriff’s office confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing.
