Mississippi Murder Suspect Izeekia Sanders Arrested by U.S. Marshals in Indianapolis

A Mississippi murder suspect on the run after a deadly Delta shooting was arrested October 7 in Indianapolis, Indiana, by the U.S. Marshals Service.

Izeekia Sanders, 20, was wanted by the Mound Bayou Police Department on accusations of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in relation to a September 20 shooting in Mound Bayou, Mississippi. On that afternoon, officers went to a report of shots fired near the 500 block of Stringer Avenue and discovered a male victim with a gunshot wound to the head. The victim, Armad Gant, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second male victim had a gunshot wound and was taken to a local hospital for treatment before being released.

The Mound Bayou Police Department and the Bolivar County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation and issued a murder warrant for Sanders. Mound Bayou police then requested assistance from the United States Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force. During the investigation, Marshals discovered that Sanders had fled Mississippi and went to Indianapolis, so the task force solicited the assistance of the United States Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force.

Marshals discovered and apprehended Sanders in a car near the 1300 block of 30th Street in Indianapolis. He was taken to the Marion County Jail for processing and is currently awaiting extradition back to Mississippi. The Mound Bayou Police Department and Bolivar County Sheriff’s Office say the murder investigation is ongoing.

Sanders is charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
