14 Probation Violations Land Florida Felon 45 Years in Prison

On Monday, a Volusia County judge handed Scott Knowlton a 45‑year state prison sentence after he confessed to breaching his probation fourteen times.

His legal woes began with a 2023 conviction for trafficking 14‑28 grams of fentanyl, possessing meth and cocaine with intent to sell, and grand theft auto, plus two additional felonies and a misdemeanor. After completing that sentence, officials placed him on supervised probation.

The violations spiked in August 2025 when, still on probation, Knowlton fled a Holly Hill police officer, leaving behind a backpack loaded with fentanyl and drug paraphernalia. Investigators quickly identified him and issued an arrest warrant, yet he managed to stay on the run for months.

The fugitive chapter ended in November 2025 during a violent episode in Daytona Beach. While cruising Atlantic Avenue, Volusia County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Brian Henderson saw Knowlton pursuing a terrified woman. Knowlton seized her and dragged her despite her attempts to escape.

Henderson pulled his vehicle over and commanded Knowlton to halt. Ignoring the order, Knowlton dropped a second backpack and sprinted toward the Ocean Center. Surveillance later showed him punching the victim in the back of the head while still holding her down. Deputies examined the abandoned bag, finding a firearm and additional drug paraphernalia. Paramedics attended to the victim’s injuries on site.

Two days later, a public tip led deputies to locate Knowlton in Ormond Beach. The November episode added new charges: kidnapping to inflict bodily harm or terrorize, battery, resisting an officer without violence, carrying a concealed weapon as a felon, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

By July, Knowlton formally acknowledged in court that he had violated his probation on fourteen counts.

“This defendant was irredeemable – a lost cause who was never going to change,” State Attorney R.J. Larizza said. “Good riddance.”

“Last time I saw Scott Knowlton, he was assaulting and dragging his girlfriend in the street,” Chief Deputy Henderson said. “Today, it was a pleasure to see him held accountable and sentenced to prison where he can’t hurt anyone else. Violent, repeat criminals like him are a danger to our community and a drain on society.”

The Volusia Sheriff’s Office conducted the probation‑violation investigation, while Assistant State Attorney Ashley McCarthy prosecuted. Circuit Judge Leah Case presided over the hearing and imposed the 45‑year term. Knowlton still has pending court dates for separate drug and domestic‑violence charges arising from his recent arrests.
