MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A 35‑year‑old Little Torch Key resident now faces felony charges after deputies say she methodically pilfered groceries and other items from a local supermarket’s self‑checkout lanes.
Nicole Elizabeth Dow was taken into custody on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, and booked into the Monroe County jail on a grand‑theft charge.
Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies first responded to the Winn‑Dixie on Big Pine Key in September after store management reported persistent losses. An internal review pinpointed Dow as the suspect responsible for a series of unpaid items taken over several months.
Store surveillance captured Dow at the registers, scanning selected items while deliberately skipping others. Investigators observed her covering or hiding barcodes on multiple occasions, preventing the scanner from registering the merchandise.
The Sheriff’s Office estimates the stolen goods total more than $1,500. After completing their investigation, authorities obtained an arrest warrant and detained Dow on Friday.
