A 39‑year‑old man finds himself in critical condition and facing several attempted‑murder charges after an early‑Sunday showdown with Sarasota County sheriff’s deputies.
The drama kicked off at 12:19 a.m. when shots rang out in the McDonald’s parking lot at Bee Ridge Road and Cattlemen Road. Thankfully, no one was hurt inside the restaurant, and the shooter fled before police arrived.
Deputies later traced the suspect, identified as Casey King, to his home at 4818 Hoyer Drive. Patrol units surrounded the house, and a deputy in a marked cruiser with its siren blaring broadcasted repeated commands over a loudspeaker, telling King to surrender and step outside.
Investigators say King emerged and opened fire on the deputies outside. One deputy returned fire, hitting King multiple times.
Officers placed King under arrest at the scene, and emergency crews whisked him to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
King now faces five counts of attempted second‑degree murder for shooting at law‑enforcement officers, and investigators expect additional charges related to the earlier McDonald’s parking‑lot shooting.
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Section is still reviewing the case, but officials assure the public there is no ongoing threat.
