Federal agents searched Democratic U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Washington, D.C., home on Monday morning as part of a criminal investigation, a source familiar with the matter told the AP.
Homeland Security Investigations agents carried out the search, the source said, speaking on condition of anonymity. Details about the investigation’s focus remain unclear.
The Justice Department confirmed that HSI agents executed a judicially authorized search warrant in the D.C. area, though officials did not disclose specifics about the target or location.
“This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation,” the department said in a statement.
An email requesting comment was sent to Omar’s representative on Monday.
Omar, 44, represents Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, which includes Minneapolis. First elected to the House in 2018, she belongs to the informal group of progressive female lawmakers known on Capitol Hill as “The Squad,” noted for their progressive agenda and opposition to the Republican administration.
