Large fire breaks out at Coastal Farm & Ranch in Eugene involving palletized wood shavings, drawing early morning ESF response

Early Saturday morning on October 10th, Eugene Springfield Fire (ESF) crews rushed to Coastal Farm & Ranch in Eugene after reports of a structure fire came in. Upon arrival, however, they discovered the situation was quite different , a large outdoor fire had broken out among palletized wood shavings sitting in the parking lot.

Multiple callers had alerted dispatchers at around 6:22 a.m. about a fire of unknown type at the business located at 2200 W. 6th Ave. Tower 2, rolling out from the Whiteaker Station, made it to the scene in roughly four minutes as part of a first-alarm response. Once there, crews quickly sized up the situation, located the fire, and established incident command before scaling back the response after confirming the fire was burning outdoors and involved stacked wood shavings.

With the flames knocked down, firefighters teamed up with Coastal Farm & Ranch staff, who brought in a forklift to break apart the piles of material. That move gave crews the access they needed to dig into the affected area, tackle any lingering hot spots, and bring the fire to a full stop.

The ESF Fire Marshal’s Office and the Eugene Police Department both pitched in, assisting with the fire investigation and keeping traffic moving safely around the scene.

Fire officials confirmed the fire stayed contained to the area where it started, limited to the palletized wood shavings in the parking lot. No injuries were reported, and officials have yet to share further details regarding the cause of the fire or the full extent of the damage.
