A trip to an Orlando grocery store resulted in a life-changing payout for one local resident.
Nathon Brown, 57, stepped forward last week to claim a $4 million Mega Millions reward, according to Florida Lottery officials. He won the second-tier payoff in the game’s June 2 drawing and went to the lottery’s Orlando district office the next day to pick up his check. Rather than receiving annual payments, Brown chose a single lump sum of $4 million.
The winning ticket was obtained from the Publix supermarket located at 12195 South Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando.
Since Florida joined Mega Millions in 2013, ticket sales have generated more than $1.45 billion for the state’s public education fund. Along the way, players in Florida have won more than $2 billion across almost 90 million tickets.
Anyone who wants to be the next big winner will not have to wait long. The next drawing is scheduled for tonight, October 13, at 11:00 p.m. ET, with an estimated $385 million prize on the line. Ticket sales stop at 10:00 p.m. sharp, and the live drawing will be broadcast on 17 television stations across the state.
