Authorities report that thieves have stolen hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of copper from building projects along Interstate 69.
According to Indiana authorities, Indiana authorities reported numerous thefts to Evansville police, the Warrick County Sheriff’s Office, and the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, copper was reported to have been taken from work zone lighting projects near the I-69 and Interstate 64 intersections.
According to authorities, scrap yards around the Tri-State shared evidence indicating that Jason Fulks and his family were selling substantial amounts of copper.
Construction crews estimated the theft of over $367,000 worth of wire.
According to records, Fulks was detained earlier this month following a traffic stop, and he also has a warrant out for his arrest in connection with the copper theft case.
Investigators discovered tools and copper in Fulks’ truck.
The probe has also led to accusations against Natalee Fairchild and Sherry Beasley for improper business influence.
Indiana authorities noted that security film, car plate readers, and mobile phone data aided their months-long investigation.
The Indiana Department of Transportation said its team is still assessing the impact of the theft on the lighting installations.
