Wanted fugitive taken into custody in connection with three 2025 Columbus shootings

A wanted fugitive in two 2025 shootings has been taken into custody in connection with a third shooting that same year, after Columbus police linked him to online messages and FaceTime calls.

According to a felony complaint record, Trey Morris has been identified as a second suspect in the March 2025 shooting that paralyzed the victim. Morris, 21, is now charged with various felonies in connection with both shootings, just over 19 months after the original incident.

Morris is charged with seven counts of felonious assault and three weapons charges stemming from a March 13 shooting on East Main Street near Allen Avenue in the Olde Towne East neighborhood.

According to police, it is where a man was found with a gunshot wound to his back. The man was hospitalized in critical condition and survived, but hospital workers later informed him that he was paralyzed from the waist down.

Officers on the site retrieved 41 shot casings, and witnesses told police that Morris and several other people were arguing with the victim about dating a lady, who also sustained minor injuries in the shooting.

A white Chevrolet Cruze was seen driving in the vicinity about 10 minutes before the incident, as well as around 3:33 a.m., when a backseat passenger leaned out the window and fired rounds at the home on East Main St.

All suspected suspects’ smartphones, including Morris’, were turned off prior to the incident and then put back on afterward.

As the inquiry progressed, Instagram posts from Morris’ account revealed details of the shooting, and another suspect sent the victim messages mocking him for being in a wheelchair. Another suspect informed the victim during a Facetime chat, “You remember what happened last time.”

Morris, who was also wanted by US Marshals in connection with a June 2025 shooting, was caught Tuesday and given a $5 million bond on all charges, including two more counts of felonious assault and three weapons charges from the second incident.

The second incident occurred on East 13th Avenue near North Pearl Street in the University District on June 16, 2016. The gunfire left no one hurt, although two guys were apparently seated outside a store before being shot.

Security cameras filmed the encounter, and cops said they recognized Morris from previous confrontations. He is also wanted in connection with a gunshot on Blake Avenue in Argyle Park in September 2025, which left two persons critically injured.

“We need to get him off the streets because if we don’t, we just don’t know what he’s going to do next,” stated the US Marshal for the Southern District of Ohio last month. “His next crime, the next act of violence that he commits, could end or result in the death of somebody.”

Jacob Driscoll, a suspect in the March shooting, has also been linked to the September shooting. Driscoll, 21, has pled not guilty to all outstanding allegations, which include six distinct occurrences and 27 felony counts.
