Mother Drops Baby Off At Georgia Jiffy Lube, Comes Back Armed With Knife, Police Say

A 35-year-old mother faces criminal charges after authorities reported that she abandoned her infant daughter at an auto shop and returned minutes later wielding a knife.

Laraven Davis pushed her 6-month-old daughter into a Jiffy Lube location in a stroller on October 24, according to television station WAGA. After briefly speaking with an employee regarding the child, Davis informed staff that she had somewhere to be and asked them to watch the baby.

Before leaving the premises, Davis made a statement that immediately alarmed the workers present.

“The paperwork is in the bag…You guys can just have her if I don’t make it back,” Davis said, according to an employee who spoke to the station.

Staff members contacted 911 as soon as Davis departed. Employees reported that the infant was wearing a soaked diaper and had severe rashes across her body.

Davis returned to the shop approximately 15 minutes later, holding a knife and demanding the return of the child. Responding police officers disarmed and arrested her at the scene.

Authorities charged Davis with child abandonment and reckless conduct. She remained held on a $4,620 bond.

Paramedics transported the infant to a nearby hospital for a medical evaluation. Authorities subsequently placed the child in the custody of the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services.
