A Pennsylvania man will serve the rest of his life in prison for shooting and killing his son’s mother and grandmother in their New Jersey home two years ago, according to the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office.
According to officials, a judge sentenced Junior Edwards, 39, to two consecutive life sentences in state prison, as well as concurrent terms of 20 years for burglary and 10 years for endangering charge.
The investigation began shortly after 4 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024, when officers from the Willingboro Township Police Department were dispatched to the first block of Harrington Circle in the Hawthorne Park portion of Willingboro Township for a report of a burglary in progress.
After entering the house, officers discovered the remains of Catherine Nunez, 33, and her mother, Marisol Nunez, 54, in an upstairs bedroom. They were pronounced deceased on the scene.
The inquiry indicated that Edwards busted up a first-floor window to gain entry.
A handgun believed to have been used in the homicides was located outside the home.
The inquiry also showed that Edwards and Catherine Nunez had an 8-year-old boy who was in the house during the shootings but was unharmed.
A Superior Court jury considered the case for six hours over two days before convicting Edwards of two counts of murder, home invasion burglary with a firearm, endangering the welfare of a child, and other crimes.
When Edwards was sentenced on May 29, he was absent from the courtroom after being removed by the judge for disruptive behavior and rants.
