Authorities have launched a search for four inmates who escaped from a correctional facility in central Alabama on Saturday.

According to the Perry County Sheriff’s Office, the inmates escaped from the Perry County Correctional PREP Center in Uniontown, Alabama.

Officials said law enforcement agencies received notification of the escape at approximately 1 a.m. local time Saturday. The sheriff’s office identified the escapees as Marquavious Billingsley, Jaden Christopher Maxwell, Johnny Dave Harris Bush Jr., and Kevin Gunn.

Authorities have not yet released details about how the inmates escaped or the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The inmates, all from Dallas County, Alabama, were housed at the PREP Center through an agreement with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department. PREP stands for Parole and Probation Reentry Education and Employment Program Center.

According to the sheriff’s office, the inmates were being held on a range of charges, including murder, first-degree robbery, breaking and entering vehicles, first-degree escape, first-degree assault, and promoting prison contraband.

Authorities urged anyone with information about the fugitives’ whereabouts to call 911 immediately and warned the public not to approach or attempt to apprehend them.

“The safety of Perry County residents is the top priority,” Perry County Sheriff Roy Fikes said in a news release. He added that deputies and assisting law enforcement agencies are “actively engaged in efforts to locate and apprehend the escapees, and an investigation is currently underway.”
