A 5-year-old girl allegedly abducted by her father from Nevada has been found safe after authorities determined the pair may have been heading to California.
According to a release from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Amaya Meithof was taken from near 2021 Lone Mountain #15 in Carson City, Nevada, early Sunday morning by her father, 41-year-old Christopher Meithof. The two were traveling in a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee bearing Oregon license plate 576QNU, possibly headed southbound toward Quartz Hill, near Lancaster.
An Amber Alert was issued for Amaya. U.S. Marshals located her at around 3:30 p.m. in Lancaster, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong confirmed.
Christopher Meithof stands approximately 6 feet tall and weighs around 170 pounds. Furlong said he was arrested after being found nearby.
