The Bellefontaine Police Department reported that several people were taken into custody this month after officers uncovered drugs, guns, and cash during a series of traffic stops in Logan County.

The department stated in a social media post that K9 Pyro helped with a proactive enforcement operation that was carried out in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies. The operation resulted in numerous arrests and the confiscation of illegal drugs and firearms.

On June 2, Bellefontaine police officers used K9 Pyro during a car stop. The K9 provided a positive alarm for the presence of narcotics, prompting officers to perform a probable cause search. Investigators say they found roughly a half-pound of methamphetamine in the vehicle.

During another traffic stop, K9 Pyro again detected the stench of drugs. A subsequent search yielded the finding of a loaded handgun, which investigators claimed was owned by a convicted felon.

On June 6, the Bellefontaine Police K9 Unit performed a traffic check on a gray Land Rover. Police identified the driver as Carlos Briscoe, who was wanted for criminal cocaine trafficking. Authorities stated the stop was part of a lengthy drug trafficking investigation by Bellefontaine police officers and Logan County Sheriff’s detectives.

After Briscoe was ordered out of the truck, cops deployed K9 Pyro, who assisted officers in taking him into custody without incident. According to investigators, Briscoe was in possession of a considerable amount of cocaine, tablets, and cash.

K9 Pyro later did a sniff of the Land Rover and detected the presence of drugs. The police agency reported that during a probable cause search of the vehicle, they discovered a loaded weapon, marijuana items, and extra cash.

The investigations are underway.
