Mesa Police say they have arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with a string of package thefts that have occurred in the East Valley since March.

According to a statement made on June 16, authorities think Luan Nguyen is the suspect in over 15 package theft instances from front porches in Mesa and one comparable event in Gilbert.

“Investigators claim Nguyen stole items sent to individuals’ houses from March 27 to June 5, 2026.

“Investigators concluded that Nguyen stole more than $2,800 in products,” according to a part of the statement. “According to the investigation, some of the stolen items were kept for personal use, while others were sold online.

“According to Det. Robert Katz of the Mesa Police Department, personal goods included Louis Vuitton and apparel. Tami Hummel, a Mesa resident, stated, “I was kind of shocked.” “Like, did that really just happen?”

Hummel said her cameras caught him red-handed. I went to look at my footage, and it showed him grabbing it and going to the side,” Hummel explained. “All my packages were gone, but he left the dog treats.”

Despite taking safeguards, Hummel became a target. “I have signs everywhere stating that it is monitored 24 hours a day,” Hummel added. “This guy was literally looking for packages to grab because they weren’t even in sight.”

According to Mesa Police, Nguyen was arrested on accusations of theft, trafficking stolen property, and possession of hazardous substances. “All are felonies.”

“The investigation is ongoing as detectives work to identify additional victims and determine whether Nguyen may be connected to other package theft incidents,” the statement added.

“I mean, it’s just packages, but it’s a big problem to people, and it makes them feel unsafe in their own neighborhood, so I really hope they make him pay for it,” Hummel added.

Mesa Police authorities stated that once the seized parcels are no longer needed for the investigation, they will work with the victims to return the stolen property.

Mesa Police say anyone who believes they may have been a victim, or who has information about the thefts, should call (480) 644-2211.
