An Indianapolis man has been charged with felony theft after police say he stole more than $10,000 worth of products from a Louis Vuitton store on the north side.

Reginald Newman, 31, was charged Tuesday in Marion Superior Court 19 with stealing between $750 and $50,000, a Level 6 felony. A warrant has since been issued for his arrest, although he has yet to be put into jail as of the publication of this piece.

Court filings describe how, on May 22, Newman entered the Louis Vuitton store inside The Fashion Mall at Keystone and took a hat box valued $10,500. He allegedly took the merchandise, hid it in a shopping bag from another store, and walked past the cashier.

Employes working that day informed police they knew Newman because he had been engaged in at least four previous thefts from the store. Store employes allegedly had video footage of Newman stealing as well.

Detectives instantly identified the suspect in the tape as Newman, whom they had previously dealt with in earlier shoplifting incidents. They quickly discovered that Newman was the driver of a Mazda CX3 that had been seen leaving the mall following earlier stealing attempts.

After identifying Newman as the culprit, officers reportedly approached many Louis Vuitton employes with a police lineup featuring Newman’s photo. At least two employes positively identified Newman as the person who took the hat box.

Judge Marc Rothenberg has now issued a warrant for Newman’s arrest. He has been granted a $2,000 cash bond for when he gets apprehended.
