Two Augusta brothers wanted in a July shooting that left a woman with gunshot wounds in both legs have been apprehended, nearly three weeks after Richmond County deputies said they opened fire on a residence in the 2800 block of Richmond Hill Road.

Michael Bartley-Miller, 22, and Jason Bartley-Miller, 21, were both arrested on four charges of aggravated assault.

The brothers were apprehended on August 13 in a combined investigation between the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Crime Suppression Team and the United States. According to The Augusta Press, the Southeastern Fugitive Task Force is part of the Marshals Service. Both men were booked into the Charles B. Webster Detention Center after weeks on the run. According to WRDW, each now faces four counts of aggravated assault in connection with the July 25 incident.

According to the WRDW report, a resident of the Richmond Hill Road residence fell asleep in the living room around 2:47 a.m. On July 25, she heard several unknown male voices outside asking for another woman. She opened the front door and informed the men that the woman they were seeking for was not present, then closed it – only to hear perhaps a dozen gunshots.

Deputies from Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to the home around 2:57 a.m. found a woman with gunshot wounds on both upper thighs. Deputies placed tourniquets on both of her legs before transporting her to Wellstar Hospital for treatment of significant injuries. According to the Georgia Trauma Foundation, the facility maintains the only adult Level I Trauma Center in the Central Savanna River Area that has been certified by the American College of Surgeons.

Investigators found many gun shells in the driveway and front yard, as well as four bullet holes on the home’s left side, where deputies believe the suspects fired. An incident report showed bloodstains in the living room and the victim’s bedroom. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division took up the investigation from patrol deputies.

Michael and Jason Bartley-Miller are the older brothers of 18-year-old Eric Markquis Bartley-Miller, who was shot and died just five weeks earlier, on June 20, during a party shooting at a leased property on Warren Road in Augusta, according to case-related reports. In the earlier shooting, Richmond County Sheriff’s deputies detained three adolescents and accused them with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of machine guns, according to News 12 26 Augusta.

Investigators have not proclaimed a retaliatory motivation for the two shootings. According to WRDW’s previous coverage, the gunmen on July 25 were looking for a woman who was not at the Richmond Hill Road residence when they opened fire — the same neighborhood where a woman named Yolanda Epps was shot and killed at the Cedarwood Apartments in March 2025, and where a 39-year-old man was injured near Ruby Drive in a separate shooting the following May.

Georgia Code Section 16-5-21 defines aggravated assault with a deadly weapon as a felony punishable by one to 20 years in prison per count upon conviction, according to legal reference works. With four counts apiece, Michael and Jason Bartley-Miller face significant prison time if convicted on all counts.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Crime Suppression Team, which led the local end of the arrest operation, is built around specialized patrol strategies, covert surveillance, and high-risk warrant execution, and routinely collaborates with federal task forces to apprehend fugitives, according to the sheriff’s office. The multi-agency approach is similar to previous Richmond County fugitive cases, including a suspect extradited from Thailand earlier this year in a separate Augusta killing.

The shooting on Richmond Hill Road adds to the county’s sad record. According to local crime trends reporting, Richmond County authorities will have reported at least 49 killings in a single calendar year by late 2025. This backdrop has kept the sheriff’s office and its task forces under scrutiny as violent occurrences, including shootings that imperil bystanders and children, continue to occur across Augusta.
