Florida Man Faces Charges After Allegedly Threatening Mass Shooting At Jewish Community, FDLE Says

State law enforcement authorities have arrested an Orlando man on charges of threatening a mass shooting against a Jewish residential community in Glades County, officials announced.

Jerry Sneed, 31, was taken into custody on October 28 by Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents and deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Sneed faces one count of making written or electronic threats to kill, inflict bodily injury, or conduct a mass shooting or act of terrorism, as well as one count of unlawful use of a two-way communication device.

The investigation began on October 19 after FDLE agents stationed in Fort Myers received reports of threatening posts on social media directed at the Glades County community. Investigators determined that Sneed had published statements threatening violence, accompanied by photographs depicting the layout of the residential area and a firearm.

Following a thorough review of the material, agents secured an arrest warrant. Upon arresting Sneed in Orlando on October 28, law enforcement officers discovered that he had in his possession the same firearm that had appeared in the online posts.

“FDLE remains committed to working with law enforcement partners to protect communities and keep Floridians safe,” the agency stated.

The State Attorney’s Office for the 20th Judicial Circuit is overseeing the prosecution. State officials confirmed that the investigation remains active.
