A 29-year-old Georgia man received a 20-year prison sentence on Thursday after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a woman at a local motel, as announced by 15th Circuit Solicitor Jimmy Richardson.
Demar Rashard Walker entered a guilty plea before Circuit Court Judge B. Alex Hyman on charges of first-degree burglary, first-degree criminal sexual conduct, and kidnapping. Assistant Solicitor George Henry Martin III managed the prosecution of the case.
Judge Hyman sentenced Walker, who carried no prior criminal record, to 20 years in prison on each charge, with all sentences running concurrently. Under state law, all three offenses carry designations as violent and most serious crimes, rendering Walker ineligible for parole. Upon completing his prison term, Walker will face a lifetime requirement to register as a sex offender.
Walker, a Georgia native who previously resided in Michigan, had recently relocated to Georgetown prior to the incident. Prosecutors established that Walker entered a woman’s room at the Budget Inn in Georgetown during the early morning hours of February 1, 2024, while she slept. He confined her inside the room and proceeded to sexually assault her.
The victim resisted during the attack, successfully forcing Walker out of the room before immediately alerting law enforcement. Officers from the Georgetown Police Department located and apprehended Walker shortly thereafter.
“We are thankful for the City of Georgetown Police Department and its officers, including Investigator Joe Wilson. Their quick response and thorough investigation have made our community safer,” Martin stated. “We appreciate them for bringing this defendant to justice.”
