Florida Governor-elect Byron Donalds celebrated his gubernatorial victory on Tuesday night, delivering a pointed message to President Donald J. Trump and affirming that the state of Florida remains firmly under Republican control.
During his victory speech before a crowd of enthusiastic supporters, Donalds revealed that President Trump contacted him shortly after the race was officially called.
“The second call that I received tonight was from the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump,” Donalds said.
Addressing the President directly from the podium, Donalds expressed his gratitude for Trump’s political support throughout the duration of the campaign.
“Mr. President, I want you to hear from Florida that we are still red,” Donalds said. “But Mr. President, I also want to tell you thank you for your support and thank you for being in my corner.”
Donalds also extended his praise to outgoing Governor Ron DeSantis, crediting his administration’s eight-year tenure with establishing a strong and enduring foundation for the state.
“Governor DeSantis has done a great job leading Florida these last eight years,” Donalds said. “And now as your next governor, we are going to make sure that Florida remains the very best state in all of America.”
The victory secures continued Republican leadership over the Florida governor’s mansion, further extending the party’s long-standing control in Tallahassee.
