Former Camas-Washougal Fire Chief Sentenced to 25 Years for Wife’s Murder

On This Post

A former battalion chief with the Camas-Washougal Fire Department has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after being convicted of killing his wife and attempting to stage her death as a medical emergency.

Kevin West was sentenced Friday morning in Clark County Superior Court after a jury found him guilty of first- and second-degree murder in the 2024 death of his wife, Marcy West.

Prosecutors said West killed his wife and tried to make her death appear to be the result of a seizure. According to investigators, West called 911 and initially told authorities that Marcy West had suffered a seizure and stopped breathing. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy later determined she died from asphyxia and blunt force trauma to the neck.

West had worked for the Camas-Washougal Fire Department for 22 years before his arrest in March 2024.

During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence that West had been involved in an extramarital relationship and had discussed ending his marriage. Investigators recovered a letter in which West allegedly wrote to another woman that 2024 would be “our year” and that they would be together. Court documents also indicated he had told his girlfriend’s brother-in-law that he planned to move out and had divorce papers prepared shortly before his wife’s death.

West was formally sentenced at 10 a.m. in Clark County Superior Court.
